Portal 2
Shoot portals on walls to solve test chambers in a ruined science lab, guided by a very funny, very rude computer.
Edition reviewed: Portal 2 (2011).
Official artwork © ValveWhat you do
Place two linked portals to move, fling yourself and redirect lasers and light bridges, one clever chamber at a time.
Who it suits
Anyone who loves puzzles and comedy. The co-op mode is one of the best two-player games ever made.
01The first hour
You wake in a decaying lab and meet Wheatley, an anxious robot. Within an hour you are flinging yourself through portals and laughing at the script.
02The middle
The middle introduces gels and light bridges, and the story takes a surprising turn underground. Every chamber teaches one new idea.
03Where to stop
Test chambers are perfect session units. The co-op campaign is best saved for a separate weekend with a friend.
Why it works
- Brilliant puzzles
- Genuinely funny writing
- Superb two-player co-op
Watch out for
- PC and Mac only today
- Some later chambers are fiddly
